the story behind ‘I Do’

About a week ago, we got home after being gone nearly 7 weeks; traveling and spending time with friends in Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and of course getting married and honeymooning in Montana, in the middle of it all.

We were all, of course, excited to get back home. But I think Indy even more than us.  She said she'd been missing her bedroom and her babies and her cousins and friends and the animals here on the farm.

Since arriving home, Rebecca’s been working on, not only getting us settled back in, but actually getting herself settled in to her, and our, new home together.

When we left in late June, she had not lived with us yet.  She’d been living about ten minutes away, until about two weeks before we left... when she moved out of her house and into the apartment above the concert hall.  And though we had moved her furniture and things into the house, they were pretty much all piled up in two rooms and so we came home knowing there was much work to be done.

In the short time we’ve now been here, she’s made some wonderful headway and the old farmhouse I’ve been living in for more than 25 years now is in some ways becoming brand new again. She's doing a wonderful job of honoring the life and story that has led us here, while still making way for this new life and love story that we’ve begun together.

And while she has been working away in the house, I’ve been on the other side of the farm working away on something I’ve been looking forward to since our wedding day... telling the story behind "I Do".

Since we shared the video online a few days after the wedding, it’s been incredibly humbling to have strangers stop us on the street, in elevators, grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants - and tell us how encouraged they were by the song and our wedding story.

But honestly, as beautiful as the 3 minute song and video are… for me, the story of how they came to be is even more special... "

At my concert here at the farm this past Friday night, I surprised everyone who came, by showing them an early version of the behind-the-scenes video on the big LED screen on the stage, which was so fun.

That night we all also celebrated the Gaither’s ( who we’ve made most of our records with through the years) releasing the recording of “I Do” on Apple Music, and Spotify and all the other places where music is listened to and purchased - that came out earlier that morning. And they even released an instrumental version of the song at the same time, in case other couples out there might want to use the song for their weddings.

If you want to know more about where you can get the song, the instrumental track or video, they put a link together so you can find it wherever you listen to music HERE.

Again, I want to send a special thank you to Matt Johnson and Mikel Hunt for all they did to make the recording and the video happen. And for all other friends who were in on the secret, and played a part in making the wedding and the whole week so special.
