flower girl

This weekend Indy and I made a quick trip home to Indiana for my nephew Cody's wedding.

A few months ago Cody and his fiancé Sydnee asked me to officiate their ceremony and Indy to be one of their flower girls and we were both honored to be part of their big day.

Cody is the son of Joey's oldest sister Jody and an amazing football player who just graduated from Ball State where he went from being a walk-on to a full scholarship and a stand-out player for his team. They even did a special video story about Cody after his first year that shares a lot about how talented he is and what a special young man he is.

The place they had their wedding at, "White Willow Farms," was beautiful and although it was a very, very chilly afternoon, it made for a wedding none of us will forget anytime soon (partly because we were all so cold).

But for me, I'll mostly remember it because from where I was standing at the altar. I had the best view of our little one coming down the aisle with her cousin Crosley in their pretty dresses dropping rose petals.

The reception afterward was great fun, although it mostly reminded me how old and un-cool I am. But Indy had fun dancing and being with her cousins.

The next morning, our dear friend Bill Gaither came and visited with us at a coffee shop in Alexandria for an hour or so, and it was so good to see him. It's amazing to see how much love and passion he has at 86 years old. I'm always inspired to hear his stories and be around him, and I know Joey's mama and sister and Jessie are too.

The trip and weekend were over much too soon, but we crammed lots of great memories into a short time. I couldn't help but think about, it and even stop and say a little prayer of hope that I can be here, God willing when Indy has her special day. I'd like to be able to walk her down the aisle, the way I have for her big sisters.
